I have been a student of happiness and meaning my entire life. In my earliest memories, my greatest joy was trying to fathom what makes life happy, valuable, and meaningful. It was what led me to choose my major (clergyman and then author and speaker), to pursue my degrees (in psychology, sociology, and philosophical studies), to write books, and to embark on the research that has occupied my adult life. It was an intellectual and emotional quest: My mind wanted to know the secrets of happiness, and my heart wanted to live it.
