Socialism is the essence of many desires, beliefs and principles of reform that attract minds. Governments fear it, legislators manage it and nations see in it the dawn of new destinies. This is how Le Bon began his research on socialism, in which he applied the ideas he had previously established in his books “The Secret of the Development of Nations” and “The Spirit of Groups.” He did not delve into the details of the doctrines of socialism, contenting himself with studying its essence and examining the reasons for its emergence and the factors that hinder it or help its spread, showing the permanent conflict between the old principles that are rooted by heredity in souls and on which societies still rely, and the modern principles that are the product of the new environments arising from the development of modern science and industry.
