This book concludes that there are two basic types of approaches to understanding human political behavior: the first is a situational approach, which considers the environment or situation surrounding the individual to be more important in shaping the individual’s behavior or role in the public sphere than his personal tendencies or characteristics; the other is the dispositional approach, which sees the individual’s personality and his beliefs, values, or even genetic heritage as more influential in this regard. In fact, political behavior can generally be viewed as an event driven by internal causes or external influences, or by a combination of these two types
