Tony Jett is a historian, writer, and professor who has served as Professor of European History, Director of the Erich Maria Remarque Center at New York University, and Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His best-known work is After the War, a chronicle of post-World War II Europe.
His positions towards the Zionist project witnessed a clear shift towards opposing this project after the 1967 war, as a result of his being affected by the problems of the Palestinian refugees and their suffering and the collapse of his dream of building a socialist Israeli society based on work. He became in contact with Arab issues and advocated a one-state solution to the conflict that gives equal rights to all its residents. He is one of the most important intellectuals interested in the Palestinian issue.
