Explanation of the book
In this collection of short stories, Atef Abu Saif tells the tales of a Palestinian refugee in Gaza, born after the 1948 war. His wife died, leaving him with a young daughter studying at university, a young son studying in elementary school, and an older son imprisoned by Israel. He lives in the post-Oslo era, with all the problems that this agreement brought, the Palestinian-Palestinian disputes, the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip, and his inability to communicate with his refugee brothers in the rest of the world. Darwish searches for something that can make him feel hopeful and happy, even if it is a walk with his daughter and young child in the pouring rain to witness the birth of a rainbow after sunrise, or planting plants on the roof of the house that make him feel the arrival of spring, or going to the sea to fish (if the occupation forces allow him).
