Explanation of the book
The novel "Doctor Glass" talks about the life of a lonely doctor who lives in Stockholm. The novel takes the form of a diary written by that doctor between June and October at the beginning of the twentieth century. The main obsession of Dr. Tico Gabriel Glass is the search for a major action or achievement that will get him out of the state of boredom and uselessness in which he lives. Then that obsession develops into a decision to kill one of his patients, the priest Gregory, whom he feels disgusted with and deeply hated. But his hatred of Priest Gregory is not the only reason that drives Dr. Glass to want to kill the priest. It is also related to a woman, Helga, the priest's wife. At the beginning of his diary, the doctor says to himself: “… I feel at this moment as if I am the loneliest person in this world. I, Dr. Techo Gabriel Glass, who sometimes helps others, could never help myself.” But the act that Glass longs to commit is too dangerous, so he engages in reviews and evaluations of the consequences of the "action" he plans to commit, and two voices quarrel with him, one warning him, while the other encourages and urges him to act. During his long self-dialogues, Glass touches on moral values, philosophical and religious concepts, and a view of oneself and the world. But will Doctor Glass actually kill his patient, Reverend Gregory?
