Civilizations are buried under the sand only because there is not enough rain, as happened in Central Asia, or immersed in forests if it rains too much, as happened in Central America. Our prosperous region would relapse back to a state of primitiveness and laziness if the temperature rose twenty degrees. In a subtropical climate, a nation of half a million could multiply like ants, but its air of idleness would make it subject to frequent occupation by warriors from other environments more stimulating and inviting. Generations may be able to establish control over the earth, but in the end it is doomed to turn into fossils under its surface.
