Why do secular countries pursue different policies towards religion? This question is the focus of the doctoral dissertation presented by researcher Ahmed Koru, in which he studied the formation of secularism in three countries: America, France, and Turkey. The book deals with two types of secularism, negative secularism and assertive secularism. In the first, the state plays a negative role by allowing the public view of religion, and this is the ideology of the United States. In the second, the role of the state is to remove religion from the public sphere, and this is the ideology of France and Turkey.
